Everyone has a story they carry with them through life. A life full of experiences that include failures, triumphs, and changes that build them up to become who they are in the present. If we can remember this when we encounter others, then we may understand and connect with them by opening-up ourselves and asking the right questions. "Not That You Asked" is divided into two sections: my past and my present. I thought of experiences that have had a great effect on who I am, and I wanted to share, through photography, some of the things that most people do not know about me. I have learned that I communicate more effectively through visual language rather than spoken. Therefore, I captured these photos in hopes for them to show more than what I can say about myself. The photos in this album are Black and White 35mm film I developed in the darkroom, printed, then digitally scanned.
"Broken Home"
"My Heart" My heart broken by overwhelming pressure, mistreatment, and feelings of being unloved or not wanted.
“Busy World” Represents the crippling anxiety I used to live with. I would stay home every chance I could, because of the fear of people and their unpredictability.
“Pointe Shoes” My love for dance that I had when I was younger and the shoes I wanted so badly.
"Blurry Self Portrait" The out-of-focus first resembles my eyesight without corrective lenses as well as me before today, who carries the past.
"Fist" Strength as well as the letter A in sign language, because I have overcome adversities, and in my opinion, my communication is best translated visually.
